Weight Watchers Recipe of the Day: WW Thanksgiving Recipes Made Lighter

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. I love gathering with friends and family to enjoy great food and give thanks!

Collage of WW friendly Thanksgiving recipes including mashed sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, pumpkin bread and no-bake pumpkin cheesecake.

Through the years I’ve been experimenting with ways to make lighter Thanksgiving recipes that don’t sacrifice taste.

Some of my favorite simple strategies for lightening up classic recipes include:

  • Substituting naturally low-fat buttermilk or Greek yogurt for butter in the mashed potatoes.
  • Slimming down the pie(s) by skipping one or both crusts or by making a light cookie or graham crumb layer instead of a traditional pie crust.
  • Using all or part whole-wheat bread and substituting chicken broth for most of the butter in the stuffing.
  • Skimming most of the fat from the turkey drippings before making gravy.
  • Reducing the sugar in the cranberry sauce.

  1. I used many of your slow cooker recipes to prepare for a 5 1/2 week vacation in our trailer. I loaded up the freezer with at least 20 meals. We enjoyed each one and the bonus was we both lost weight

  2. We LOVE your recipes!!! Thank you so much for getting us hooked on slow cooking!!! My request is that your Thanksgiving recipes would be bundled in an e-book, so I could easily look thru them on my computer. I am not asking for this from free . . .

    A happy follower,

    1. Hi Jan, Thanks so much for letting me know! I love the idea of bundling my Thanksgiving recipes into an ebook. I wish I’d thought of it a couple of months ago so I could have had it ready for this year. It’s definitely getting added to my list for next holiday season. I appreciate your support more than you know. – Warmly, Martha
