There’s something timeless about the smell of cinnamon baked apples drifting through the kitchen. Simple, cozy, and budget-friendly, these easy Oven Baked Apples are one of my go-to healthy desserts. I’ve even served them with a drizzle of low-fat custard sauce at a friend’s dinner party — they were a hit with both kids and adults.
Best of all, they’re quick to make, don’t require peeling or slicing, and are versatile enough to serve for dessert, as a breakfast side with yogurt, or even as a light afternoon treat.

Ingredients and Substitutions
- Apples — Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, Braeburn, Rome, or Golden Delicious all bake beautifully without turning mushy.
- Brown sugar — For sweetness and caramel-like flavor. Substitute maple syrup, honey, or a sugar-free alternative.
- Butter (melted) — Adds richness. Swap with coconut oil for dairy-free.
- Cinnamon — The warm spice that makes these irresistible.
- Nutmeg — Adds depth; you can omit if preferred.
- Water or apple juice — Keeps the apples moist during baking.
- Optional Add-ins for the filling: quick oats, chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds), dried cranberries, or raisins.

This is just what I was looking for for my book club tomorrow night. Do you cover the apples while they bake??
Hi Rinah,
No, I baked them uncovered. You could cover them to make them softer/cook them more quickly. Hope this helps.
