  • Frozen Meatballs – I use turkey meatballs to keep the calories and WW Points lower. Beef, chicken, or vegetarian meatballs will also work. If you prefer, you can make your own homemade meatballs.
  • French Onion Soup – A can of condensed French onion soup creates the savory sauce. Choose reduced-sodium soup to keep the recipe lighter. You can also swap in homemade French onion soup if you have some on hand.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Slow Cooker Method

  1. Add ingredients. Place frozen meatballs into the slow cooker. Pour the French onion soup over the top and stir to coat.
  2. Cook. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–6 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours, until meatballs are heated through and tender.
  3. Serve. Stir gently and serve meatballs with sauce over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, or zucchini noodles.

Instant Pot Method

  1. Add ingredients. Place frozen meatballs in the Instant Pot (affiliate link) insert. Pour French onion soup over the top.
  2. Pressure cook. Lock the lid and set vent to Sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 5 minutes. Allow 5 minutes of natural release, then quick release any remaining pressure.
  3. Serve. Stir gently and serve warm with your favorite sides.

Super-easy and very delicious, these slow cooker French onion meatballs have been added to our regular dinnertime rotation.

Ingredients 

  • 24 ounces meatballs (I used frozen turkey meatballs)
  • 2 cans (10-1/2 ounces each) French onion soup

Instructions 

  • Ideal slow cooker size: 4-Quart.
  • Grease your slow cooker with nonstick spray. 
  • Add the meatballs to your slow cooker. Pour the soup over the meatballs.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for about 4 hours, until heated through.

    Love this recipe ! Simple ,quick and easy. I did add 2 tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce and 2 tbsp of A1 Steak Sauce for a little extra tang and topped with shredded cheddar cheese and served on toasted buns .

    1. Hi Lynda, I haven’t tried them in the Instant Pot. Based on what I can see on the Internet I would place the onion soup in the pot and then add the meatballs. I would seal the vent and cook on High Pressure for 5 minutes and then do a Quick Release. Would love to know how they turn out for you. ~Martha

    This recipe is delicious…so easy to prepare! I recently purchased a 3 compartment slow cooker. Since I only cook for 2, the small cookers are perfect to make delicious simple nourished meals on the weekend and enjoy them all week long. It feels good to eat healthy as well as delicious foods and to know that I am not deprived.

  4. Made these today OMG they are delicious. I used frozen meatballs and 4 cans of French Onion soup. I’d love to try with Turkey Meatballs if I can find some.

    1. Hi Peggy, I haven’t done it in the Instant Pot. I’m sure you could do it in the Instant Pot on the Slow Cooker Setting, but I have never tried it using the pressure cooker setting.
