Pain au chocolat, or chocolate croissants, are an all-time favorite of mine. I ate one almost every day during our visit to Paris.

So it’s no surprise that this recipe for Nutella puff pastries caught my eye. With just two ingredients and a small portion size, they offer that warm, flaky, chocolatey bite I love — without being overly heavy. If you enjoy simple Nutella desserts like my Simple Low-Calorie Nutella Mousse or the 3-Ingredient Instant Pot Nutella Fudge Cake, these puff pastry bites are another easy, satisfying option.

With a sheet of puff pastry and a spoonful of Nutella, they come together quickly and feel special enough for dessert, brunch, or a sweet snack.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Puff Pastry – Frozen puff pastry sheets work perfectly here. Thaw according to package directions before using. Gluten-free puff pastry can be substituted if needed.
  • Nutella Hazelnut Spread – Nutella provides the chocolate-hazelnut filling. Other chocolate hazelnut spreads will work, though sweetness and texture may vary.

Step 6: Gently lift the sealed dough puff and place on prepared baking sheet (affiliate link). (I like to line mine with a silpat (affiliate link) for easy cleanup.) Repeat for remaining pastry squares.

Step 7: Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.

Recipe Notes & Portion Options

For smaller, bite-size pastries:

  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into 24 squares
  • Use about ½ teaspoon of Nutella per square

This creates a lighter, single-bite option with fewer calories and WW Points.

For variety, try adding:

  • A light dusting of powdered sugar after baking
  • A small dab of raspberry or strawberry jam along with the Nutella

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve warm as an easy dessert
  • Add to a brunch buffet for a sweet bite
  • Enjoy as a tea-time or afternoon snack
  • Pack one as a special lunchbox treat
