Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
Like most everyone else, I struggled with weight since I left high school and quit playing organized sports. I quickly gained weight in college and was unable to lose it.
I tried diet after diet, working out, giving myself incentives, and nothing would stick.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or “A-Ha Moment” That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
In 2017, I weighed 325 pounds and was diagnosed with fatty liver disease. This was after spending all summer at the oncologist thinking maybe I had cancer or something else.
My two young boys had to bounce to doctor’s appointments with me and see the cancer patients in the waiting room and it was so hard on them.
The day I was finally diagnosed the gastroenterologist told me to try the Keto diet (he had just heard of it) because extreme weight loss might be the thing to reverse my disease.
I left that day and found Keto Karma online, read her story, and started immediately.
I had tried to lose weight for over 20 years and this finally started working. I have now lost 125 pounds and am still going!
Six months after my diagnosis, all my bloodwork came back perfect and remains perfect.
As a high school teacher I have used my story to show students that at my age I do still have goals and dreams and have to work hard to accomplish them!
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
Before I started Keto I ate everything I wanted, when I wanted. I loved carbs! The more chips and salsa, the better.
Now I stick to a high fat, very low carb diet. I do fast occasionally when I need to jump start my weight loss again.
No more diet drinks and those used to be my morning and afternoon staple!
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
I can actually walk and run. I don’t run a lot as I did damage to my knees when I was so heavy, but I walk daily.
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
I can get on rollercoasters with my two boys and they are so proud of me! Even my teenager—who is not impressed by much—always tells me how proud of me he is.
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
So far I have lost 125 pounds and it took me just about 2 years.
Any Advice and/or Words of Wisdom for Others Who Are Struggling?
Losing weight is not immediate and setting long-term goals did not help me. I had to (and still have to) make decisions every single day, every single meal. It is a lot of little battles but you can do it!
