How to Make Frozen Chocolate-Dipped Bananas
Step 1: Gather and prepare all ingredients.
Step 2: Line a rimmed baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
Step 3: Cut bananas in half crosswise, remove peel and insert a popsicle stick (affiliate link) into the cut (flat) end of each banana.
Put bananas on prepared pan.
Step 4: Place pan in freezer for 15 minutes, or just until bananas begin to freeze.
Step 5: Add chocolate chips to microwave-safe bowl and heat on HIGH in 20 second bursts, stopping and stirring in between bursts, until completely smooth and melted.
Step 6: Working quickly, spread chocolate over bananas using a small knife before sprinkling two bananas with coconut and the other two bananas with chopped peanuts. (Alternatively, melt chocolate in glass Pyrex measuring cup that will allow you to dip the bananas in chocolate before sprinkling coconut or peanuts over the chocolate.)
Step 7: Return coated bananas to prepared pan and return to freezer for another 30 minutes, or until chocolate is set.
Step 8: After bananas are frozen and chocolate is set, bananas can be stored freezer in an airtight container.
Recipe Notes, Substitutions and Variations
We love coconut and peanuts, but feel free to coat your chocolate covered banana in your favorite topping (adjust SmartPoints as needed):
- Chopped walnuts, pecans, almonds, macadamia nuts, pistachios or your favorite nut
- Fancy colored sprinkles or chocolate jimmies
- Mini M&M's, toffee bits, crushed Graham Crackers, Oreo's (or your favorite cookie)
- Chopped raisins or dried cranberries
- Freeze-dried blueberries, raspberries or strawberries
- Crushed dry cereal (Cornflakes, Grape Nuts, Fruity Pebbles, etc.)
- Sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, etc.
- Sea salt flakes
- Granola
You can always roll your chocolate covered bananas in the toppings, but for us this creates a bigger mess. We found that it's much easier to sprinkle the toppings over the chocolate and then press slightly to ensure it sticks.

Serving Suggestions
Enjoy right from the freezer, just like your favorite popsicle or ice cream on a stick. Or, you can let your banana sit out and soften for a few minutes at room temperature if your teeth are a little more sensitive—like mine!
Ways to Use Leftovers
- Any leftover bananas can be stored in an airtight container in the freezer.
- Toss a frozen banana into your favorite smoothie for a little extra indulgence.
- Let a banana soften slightly at room temperature, then slice and add over a scoop of frozen Lite Cool Whip.
