I’ve always loved starting my day with yogurt and fruit, especially when I want something simple, nourishing and satisfying.

Years ago, after discovering Mireille Guiliano’s “Magical Breakfast Cream,” I started experimenting with my own variations. When I came across this banana cream “pie” yogurt idea inspired by The French Women Don’t Get Fat Cookbook (affiliate link), I had to try it.

It turns out, plain yogurt, ripe banana, a touch of honey, vanilla and wheat germ combine to create something that tastes surprisingly indulgent—yet feels light and balanced. It is quick to stir together, requires no cooking, and makes an easy high-protein breakfast or snack.

This is the kind of breakfast that feels a little special without being complicated. And I find it helps me stay on track simply because it leaves me satisfied.

Plain Greek yogurt, vanilla, honey, wheat germ, banana on kitchen counter

Ingredients and Substitutions

  • Plain yogurt – Greek yogurt works especially well because it’s thicker and higher in protein, but you can use any plain yogurt you enjoy. Choose nonfat to keep the WW points to a minimum.
  • Ripe banana – The riper the banana, the sweeter the flavor.
  • Honey – Just a small drizzle adds natural sweetness. Maple syrup would also work.
  • Vanilla extract – Enhances the “banana cream pie” flavor.
  • Wheat germ – Adds a subtle nutty flavor and a boost of fiber. You can substitute ground flaxseed, nuts or simply omit if preferred.

Recipe Notes

If you don’t enjoy plain Greek yogurt, feel free to use your favorite yogurt instead. Just keep in mind that flavored yogurts will increase the sugar and calorie count.

You can also layer this parfait-style if serving to guests.

This works equally well as a quick afternoon snack or light dessert.
