Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I came to Weight Watchers in January this year with a starting weight of 281. I was tired all the time and couldn't keep up with my energetic 2 year old nephew. I suffered from high blood pressure and was on several different medications to help lower it, but nothing was working well.
I kept seeing the commercials with Oprah talking about the new SmartPoints® program and that you can still eat bread and other things you love and lose weight.
I tried other diets before that excluded carbs and it just didn't work. I knew I needed to find something that worked with my life and taught me how to learn moderation and portion control with those foods I love.
So I found a local meeting and after the first week I realized this was something I could do and I never looked back. If I just worked the plan and stuck to it, I knew I was on my way to a new life, a new me.
As of today I am down 75 pounds. I earned my 75 pound charm at my last meeting and it was truly the most gratifying accomplishment I have ever felt. There was a woman that set next to me and it was her first WW meeting ever. She told me she was hesitant to join but saw the sign outside and knew she had to do something to help lose the weight so she thought she would come see what it was about. After receiving my charm, she came up to me and said that my success has given her the motivation to make this work. I couldn't believe that I was able to encourage someone in that way.
WW is not just about losing weight, it is about learning how to live life in a healthy balanced way. All the while, I never had to give up the foods I love to eat, I just had to learn portion control and how to incorporate healthy options as well, and it worked!
I also starting exercising when I joined and for the first time in 20 years I have even started to jog again! I completed my first 5K race in July on my 42nd birthday and have signed up for the Walt Disney World 10K in February 2017. I can play and keep up with my nephew now and have been taken off all of my blood pressure medications!
Weight Watchers has truly changed me in every way, it has given me my life back and that is the greatest feeling in the world! I still have more than 40 pounds to go but I now know I can do it!
The key habits I have made is incorporating exercise and also learning to make better choices. I know that eating protein and veggies and fruit will fill me up more than a bag of chips, even if it has the same point value.
I have had several occasions when I didn't stay within my points allowance. I had too much birthday cake one time and too much Halloween candy a couple weeks ago. The biggest difference between how I handle that now is I get right back on track. I don't let one bad day of eating derail me for a week or month. I just count the points and get right back on track. I know this is not a sprint but a marathon and I am learning how to make this a way of life. Sometimes in life we can't always stay on course, that's okay, it's a journey and I just keep going.
Having the support and encouragement of other people going through the same struggles and victories as me has truly helped me stay motivated. Sharing this journey with others is what makes Weight Watchers so special and what Makes it Work!
