Pat S. Shares Her Weight Loss Journey on Simple Nourished Living
How Pat Lost 196 Pounds with Weight Watchers

I’m excited to be sharing another inspiring weight loss story with you today. Pat S, a 68-year-old retired school teacher from Canada, credits her daughter with giving her “the gift of life” when she invited her to come along with her to Weight Watchers meetings and purchased her an initial three month pass.

Her weight loss success story was recently featured in the Windsor Star which you can read here in its entirety: windsorstar.com/life/fashion-beauty/celebrating-their-success

Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle

In the article Pat shares that her struggles with turning to food for comfort and consolation began when at the very young age of 7, she was told that her father had died, and then sent off to the movies alone where she devoured a huge bag of popcorn. Then as a healthy 128 pound teen, her mother inflicted further emotional pain by suggesting she where a girdle and roll on her hips to make them smaller.

After getting married and having children, Pat gained 80 pounds. For years she suffered through the cycle of losing and gaining 100 pounds ten different times.

Feeling defeated, and with the scales hitting 367 pounds, my daughter invited me to join Weight Watchers with her.

How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Weight Loss Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?

“I ate fatty foods, lots of junk food. I now eat healthy foods and very low sodium.”  In the article Pat explains that she prepares all of her meals ahead of time. Her freezer is filled with fish and meals prepared in one serving containers. Hummus, tabouleh, whole wheat pitas, fat free salsa, hard boiled eggs and fruits and vegetables take the place of sweets and other junk food.

Advice and/or Words of Wisdom to Others Who Are Struggling?

For years I went through the cycle of losing weight only to gain it back. I’ve actually lost 100 pounds 10 different times! I had to change my lifestyle if I wanted to save my life. Now I write down everything I eat because it helps keep me accountable every day. It was important for me to not focus on the whole, end result because that was too overwhelming. By looking at it in small increments, it just seems more do-able. (Click here to read more about taking a step-by-step approach to lasting weight loss.)

  1. Oh, WOW! Pat’s story is sooooo inspiring! She and I are the same age, and I rejoined Weight Watchers a week ago….but have “only” about 60 pounds to lose. She is my role model, now!

    1. Thanks, Sandy! Get of luck with your weight loss journey. I’m sure Pat is thrilled to know that she is your role model. I think that’s what it is all about. Helping ourselves and helping others 🙂

    2. Thanks Sandy. I am glad you are inspired by my journey. The reason I did the interview was to help others. Little did I know it would also help me. The response has been overwhelming. Florine Mark honoured people in my area who had lost over 50 pound on Weight Watchers. I was the night’s biggest winner. It was so surreal. I felt she was talking about someone else!
