Oprah Announces She’s Lost 40 Pounds on Weight Watchers
And a recent segment on Good Morning America where Oprah talks about her success with SmartPoints and Beyond the Scale…
Like so many of us, Oprah made a weight loss resolution last year. And now we’re learning that she’s made good – big time!
She reveals in a new Weight Watchers campaign just how much she’s lost, crediting her success to an entire lifestyle shift.
Oprah tells us…
“Since I started Weight Watchers I’ve lost over 40 pounds and I can honestly tell you… I struggle no more.”
Through the years, Oprah has shared her struggle with weight. Now the media mogul is getting results.
Oprah calls Weight Watchers “…a lifestyle, a way of eating and a way of living that’s so freeing.”
“I live well, while losing weight. It’s easier than it’s ever been.”
Living A Happy Healthy Balanced Life with Weight Watchers
Weight Watchers new campaign encourages people to “…live the life they want…”
“I’ve eaten everything I love, tacos, pasta – I’ve never felt deprived.” And of course Oprah’s favorite food, bread. Something she spoke about back in January.
“I don’t deny myself bread. I have bread every day.” This summer, Oprah told Good Morning America the program is one of the things helping her live her best life.
“So I am at a point in my life, where I actually for years… in the magazine (O Magazine), talked about balance and living your best life… I actually am doing it.”
Weight Watchers says with its new program SmartPoints: Beyond the Scale, members are now losing 15% more weight than before.
Oprah says another big key for her is having a weight loss partner – her buddy is Stedman Graham. This works because it’s more fun and it makes you feel like you’re in it with someone else.
Senior medical contributor to GMA, Dr. Jen Ashton is board-certified in obesity medicine, shares her thoughts on the significance of Oprah’s weight loss…
“Let’s do some simple math. In the world of obesity medicine, the gold-standard is the loss of just 5-10% of your starting body weight. So while people who are overweight and obese want to lose a lot more than that, just 5% has been shown to do some dramatic, positive things internally for health benefits.
So, you talk about 40 pounds – unless you started at 800 pounds – that is significant weight loss.”
“Yes, and she has kept that weight off for more than a year.”
It’s important to remember that weight loss experiences vary from individual to individual. There’s good data that your initial weight loss predicted your longterm success.
Unfortunately, the bad news is that after two years most people who lose weight have gained it back. It doesn’t mean it’s impossible, it just means it’s very difficult and not a matter of willpower.
“One of the things Oprah said is that she has made a lifestyle shift and she no longer struggles and worries about it they way she once did. I think she looks the best she’s ever looked.”
