This original kiwi smoothie recipe came about because I had some fruit that I needed to use. It’s heating up here in Phoenix and some fruit I bought recently just wasn’t holding up well.
I ended up throwing all the ingredients that sounded good to me into my Vitamix and this is the result.
A really tasty (if I do say so myself) and not too sweet, refreshing smoothie.
If you are not familiar with kiwi, they are known as kiwifruit in New Zealand. This nutrient-dense fruit is native to northern China and is sometimes called Chinese gooseberry.
The most common type of kiwifruit you are most likely to find will be about the size of a large egg. It has a fuzzy brown skin on the outside and the inside is bright green with rows of small black seeds around the center.
You might also see golden kiwifruit which have a smooth skin, but the color of the inside flesh can vary from bright green to bright yellow.
I used the more common type, with fuzzy skin, for this smoothie recipe.
Kiwifruit is high in vitamin C and vitamin K and an excellent source of vitamin E and fiber.
Peter’s “Kitchen Sink” Kiwi Smoothie Recipe
I jokingly refer to this as my “kitchen sink” smoothie because I ended up putting so much into it! Feel free to adjust as necessary, based on the ingredients you have on hand.
Kiwi Smoothie Recipe
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 2 kiwifruit peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup strawberries
- 1/2 cup blackberries
- 4 pitted dates chopped
- 1/4 cup quick-cook oats uncooked
- 1/4 cup nonfat Greek yogurt
- 1 cup ice
- Add all ingredients to high-powered blender and blend until smooth, about 2 minutes.

One thing that I love about making smoothies is that they are so easy to modify.
If you have fresh fruit, you can use it. If you have frozen, you can use it.
In my opinion, it’s almost impossible to make a bad smoothie.
If you don’t like how it tastes at first, just add something else to make it better.
For example, if it’s too tart, just add a little honey, agave nectar or your sweetener of choice.
The dates added some nice natural sweetness to this kiwi smoothie – but did require a little extra blending power and time.
I also added a little more ice than usual, but that’s because I was using fresh fruit and wanted it to be nice and cold and refreshing.
