Why not make this the year to show yourself some love?
With the new year here, everyone makes an effort of starting fresh with their new year’s resolutions. Whether it be with your diet, your love life, or work aspiration, the new year is the perfect time to provide extra attention to an area in your life. No matter what your focus is for the new year though, it’s always important that we make time for ourselves. With all the daily responsibilities that we get caught up in, making an effort to shower ourselves with self-love is as important as all of your other resolutions. Showing ourselves kindness through a few simple ways will be a great way to kick off the new year and bring out an even more courageous and better you.
Be Active
Whether your New Year’s Resolution was fitness related or not, being active should be part of everyone’s routine for the new year. It’s no surprise that when we work out, we feel better about ourselves and generally feel more confident. As a way to release endorphins and burn off those extra calories, make it part of your routine to include exercise. By no means does this mean you have to hop on the treadmill (affiliate link) and run 5 miles every day. Exercise is always more enjoyable when you are actually fond of what you’re doing. Whether it’s weekly yoga, trying out that aerial class, or just going for a walk after work, having some form of exercise is a great way to give your body some TLC for the new year.

Be Kind to Yourself
It’s much easier for us to criticize ourselves than to give ourselves compliments. For the new year, make an effort of being extra kind to yourself on a daily basis. This can be with reciting daily affirmations to yourself, giving yourself a compliment every morning or writing down in a journal everything you love about yourself. With studies showing that reciting affirmations has positive side effects in multiple areas of life, it’s helpful to check out a list of affirmations that will give you inspiration for your recitations.

Splurge on Yourself
There’s no question about it, every woman deserves to treat herself once in a while. Splurging on ourselves is a great way to show some self-love while also allowing yourself to have some fun. If you’re feeling financially limited, there are luckily tons of ways to splurge on yourself that are completely doable and affordable. You can start off small by treating yourself to that extra piece of chocolate or giving your skin a little extra love by applying a DIY face mask. No matter how big or small, allowing yourself to have an experience that makes you happy is a great way to bring out an even more confident you.
Buy from Inclusive Brands
As body empowerment has become only more and more popular, many clothing companies are backing up this message by offering clothing that fits women of all sizes. Clothing companies such as Forever 21 and Asos are great examples of this as both companies offer a curve and plus size section on their site and in stores. The body positive message isn’t only instilled in clothing brands but undergarment companies as well. Bra retailer, True&Co. develops bras that cater to women of all sizes going up to size 40DD. With the body empowerment message bound to only get bigger, we can expect to see even more companies get in on this and help spread the message of self-love for this year and beyond.
