I have just finished The Four Spiritual Laws of Prosperity: A Simple Guide to Unlimited Abundance by Edwene Gaines.
There’s a lot of wisdom and inspiration between its pages.
One important topic that resonated strongly was the importance of committing to greater self-love, something that can be particularly challenging for most of us.
I remember several years ago a life coach/author guest on Oprah being booed when she suggested to the mostly woman audience they take care of themselves first.
What are we so scared of? Why does it seem selfish to care for oneself? Why is it so unacceptable?
I believe it is part of my mission in life to convince everyone, especially women, everywhere that it is imperative that they treat themselves with greater self love and indulge in more self care.
There’s a reason flight attendants advice you to put on your oxygen mask first in the event of an emergency.
Charity begins at home. Do onto others as you would do onto yourself.
If you don’t love and care for yourself how can you successfully love and care for others? You can’t. When you don’t take care of yourself you get tired, sick, depleted, stress and tension build, and before you know it you are cranky at best and severely ill at worst.
So make it your mission to do something for yourself each and every day. You decide.
Keep a list of things you love to indulge in or want to do and then schedule them and do them. My list includes things like take a bubble bath, read a mystery (I am especially fond of Diane Mott Davidson’s culinary mysteries), try a new recipe, take Francie, my lovable golden retriever, on a relaxing walk along the canal, meditate, do some yoga.
Give it a try — begin the list, schedule the activity and do it.
When you engage in activities that please and nourish you something amazing will happen. You will begin to feel more energized and find yourself with more to give–more time, energy, patience for all the important people in your life — your family, colleagues, and friends. You and everyone around you will prosper.
