Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I'm 49 years old and 23 years ago I had my thyroid removed because of thyroid cancer. Every year I started gaining weight. I tried different things but nothing ever worked. I struggled greatly with the unexpected loss of my dad and basically I gave up trying.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or "A-Ha Moment" That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
I started gaining weight at the start of the covid pandemic. I was cooking lots, but I was moving around a lot less. Finally I hit a number on the scale that scared me and I thought I had to do something before I have a heart attack.
The most I had ever lost in 23 years was 7 pounds. Once I hit 10 pounds down I was more motivated. I only started taking pictures of my weight loss once I lost 20 pounds because I didn't believe I could do it.
People asked me how much I was going to try to lose and I would say 90 pounds. Some people laughed at that, but once I lost 20 there was no stopping me.
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
My eating habits have changed quite drastically. I now eat more protein and well balanced meals. Before I lost my weight I was snacking lots and not eating a balanced diet. I would eat fast food a few times a week. Now I try and make healthy choices when eating out. I try to make it as sustainable as possible to maintain it.
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
Before I would climb my stairs and be out of breath. I wasn't moving enough. Now I walk everyday and do a light workout at home. I was boxing, but I haven't done that for awhile.
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
At first when I lost 20 pounds no one really noticed. I was a bit hurt because I knew that my clothes were fitting bigger but no one else did. It was around 40 pounds down that people started noticing. It's been such an enlightening journey.
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I started in April of 2020 and have lost 90 pounds.
Some Advice and/or Words of Wisdom I'd Like To Share
If I can lose weight I believe anyone can. I always thought I couldn't but I realized that I wasn't working hard enough to achieve it. I am 49 years old and have no thyroid because of thyroid cancer.
