Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I've struggled with my weight on and off for most of my life and have had success before in losing weight, but have trouble maintaining long-term. I decided this time I'm not going to fall back down that rabbit hole and gain the weight back. I'm treating it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet and creating habits that will be sustainable for the long run.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or "A-Ha Moment" That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
Well, aside from the fact that I had just become uncomfortable in my skin, I was also told by my doctor that I was obese and needed to lose weight. I had someone close also make rude comments about my weight, so when January of this year rolled around I was fed up enough that I decided to make a change and stick with it.
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
I find myself gravitating more towards the produce aisle and trying to make more fresh choices and put less processed food in my mouth. I still enjoy treats every now and again, but in moderation, 1 or 2 cookies instead of the whole bag. I also find that I consume a lot more water and when I don't drink enough my body craves it.
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
Oh man, my fitness before had become non-existent and I was sitting at a desk everyday and just felt lethargic and miserable. I feel so much better since I have consistently started moving my body and it is one of the biggest stress relievers. Now I workout about 4-6 days a week.
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
Just to feel good about myself again, my body moves so much better, my clothes fit better. I know I'm helping my joints too because losing weight takes so much pressure off your knees and back. I want to live a long, healthy life! It's a whole mental change.
My Favorite Recipe
I love this easy recipe for Dirty Rice with Turkey.
- 1 pound of ground turkey
- 1 bag of boil in a bag brown rice
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 small bell pepper, diced
- Parsley, chopped
- Dice green pepper and onion up and sauté. Once onions look translucent, then you can add in seasoned ground turkey and cook until done. Add parsley and bread crumbs to meat mixture as desired.
- In a pot, bring water to a boil and add brown rice. Cook for 10 min and then drain and add to meat mixture. Mix until evenly distributed.
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I've lost 49 pounds and it took me about 4-5 months to lose and I have been maintaining for about 5 months now. I would still like to lose another 20-30 pounds.
Some Advice and/or Words of Wisdom I'd Like To Share
Trust the process, you're going to have good days and bad days, you will have setbacks and there will be days that you have no motivation, but keep pushing and keep your eye on the prize. It's a lifelong commitment but you will get there eventually, you just have to be patient with yourself and your body. Losing weight is a huge mental game!
