Janet's Weight Loss Success Journey
Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I struggled with my weight all of my life. There were times I really did not think I could really shed the pounds. I would overeat just about any and everything. I would always go back for seconds immediately after I finished eating my first plate of food. Chips and sugary drinks were a must!
I just continue to eat what I wanted, how much I wanted when I wanted it. No self-control at all. When you're overweight it so easy for it to become the norm. Feeling, as if you're supposed to be that way.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or "A-Ha Moment" That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
I recall watching a Christian TV program and the speaker was discussing a topic we all are familiar with, weight. An explanation was given on how it is time for people to be aware of what is going on with their bodies. The discussion led to the importance of knowing your cholesterol levels, your HDL (High-density lipoprotein), and LDL (Low-density lipoprotein).
Sitting there listening to the discussion, I started having an internal dialogue with myself. "Well I know this does not apply to me. I do not have high cholesterol because I don't consume a lot of fatty foods."
"I know, I'm not that much overweight." Isn't it funny at times a deaf ear is turned away from the truth? The reality is many are not ready to face the truth about our current condition.
I immediately began to reason with myself. I continued to tell myself this does not apply to me. I was not ready to face the truth! How about you, are you prepared to face the truth?
This was my wake-up call; while listening to this program, I started to cry uncontrollably becauseI knew my weight was out of control. I needed the Lord to come and rescue me.
In the past, I had tried all kinds of diets, even going to the gym, to no avail. Nothing seemed to be working for me. It was at this point, I began to surrender. I could no longer lie to myself. I wanted to live and not die. It was time for me to get healthy and fit.
There's a family history of hypertension, diabetes, and heart disease in my family. I was already experiencing heart palpitations when climbing stairs. My sides ached all the time due to weight, which reached 250 plus pounds. I had stopped weighing myself. I was too embarrassed to know my exact weight. My excuses were running thin.
I was persistently telling myself I will start tomorrow. My tomorrow never came until I was ready to face my today! I had to get real with myself. I was at my lowest. My clothing size was 22/24.
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
My eating habits have changed tremendously! I no longer consume sugary drinks, water is a must. I stopped eating high fatty foods. I stopped frying food, now I bake or broil. I started to incorporate more fruits and veggies into my diet. When it comes to chips/ and junk food.
I have made healthier choices. For example instead of tortilla chips, black bean tortilla chips. I rarely consume candy or sugary snacks. Sugar is no longer part of my diet. About 4 years ago, I decided to give up meat totally! It has been the best decision I've made as it relates to my health and fitness.
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
The greatest difference in my fitness before and now is I feel alive and usual feeling my best! Before my fitness, I would experience shortness of breath just going up and down the stairs. Heart palpations and body aches. I have not experienced any health-related issues due to being overweight.
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
The biggest change is losing over 100 lbs!
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I lost 100 lbs. It took me forever to lose the weight if I can be honest. I would lose, gain and lose and gain more. It wasn't until the mindset change that I committed to losing the weight and keeping it off. I would say it took about six years due to the fact I would lose and gain several times.
Some Advice and/or Words of Wisdom I'd Like To Share
