Some of my favorite recipes are the ones that hardly feel like recipes at all.
These Easy 3-Ingredient Sausage & Apple Skewers are a perfect example. Made with fully cooked chicken sausage, crisp apple, and Babybel Light cheese, they come together in about five minutes and make a surprisingly satisfying snack, light lunch, or easy appetizer.
Rod and I enjoyed these recently as a late afternoon snack, and they really hit the spot. They’re savory, a little sweet, packed with protein, and just enough to keep us going until dinner.
The idea originally came from one of Hungry Girl’s magazines, but I’ve adapted it using ingredients I usually have on hand.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Just 3 ingredients – Simple, everyday ingredients you can keep on hand.
- Ready in 5 minutes – Perfect when hunger strikes.
- High in protein – A satisfying snack or light meal.
- Easy to customize – Swap the fruit, cheese, or sausage to suit your taste.
- Great for snacks, lunches or appetizers – Dress them up for a party or enjoy them at home.
Ingredients & Substitutions
Here’s what you’ll need:
Fully Cooked Chicken Sausage
Slice into coins. I used a garlic and herb chicken sausage, but smoked or apple-flavored chicken sausage works well too.
Substitution: Turkey sausage, smoked sausage, plant-based sausage, or even cooked tofu.
Apple
Cut into bite-sized chunks. I used Pink Lady apples, but Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, or Granny Smith are all great choices.
Substitution: Pears, grapes, or cherry tomatoes.
Mini Babybel Light Cheese
Cut each round into four pieces.
Substitution: Light string cheese, low-fat cheddar, or mozzarella cubes.
How to Make Easy Chicken Apple Skewers

Step 1: Assemble and Prep your ingredients
Step 2: Heat the sausage – Place the sausage slices in a small microwave (affiliate link)-safe bowl and heat for about 45 seconds, or until warmed through.

Step 3: Make your skewers: Alternately thread sausage, apple, and cheese onto 2 wooden skewers (4 of each ingredient per skewer). You could also make Mini Skewers: Use toothpicks to create 8 bite-size skewers, each with one sausage coin, one apple piece, and one cheese cube.

Recipe Tips
- Assemble a few hours ahead and refrigerate until ready to serve.
- Toss apple chunks with a little lemon juice if making ahead to prevent browning.
- Try different cheeses or fruits depending on the season.
- Mini skewers make a fun addition to appetizer platters or lunchboxes.

Serving Ideas
These simple skewers are surprisingly versatile.
- Party appetizer: Make mini toothpick skewers for easy entertaining.
- Snack board: Pair with grapes, crackers, and a handful of nuts.
- Lunchbox: Add a few mini skewers alongside cucumbers, hummus, and crackers.
- Light lunch: Serve over salad greens with a drizzle of balsamic glaze or grainy mustard.
One thing I especially like about these is that they satisfy my craving for something savory without requiring any real cooking. They’re exactly the kind of recipe I keep in mind for busy afternoons or those evenings when I need a little something before dinner.
