Do you want to know how to cook ground beef in the crock pot? Or ground turkey?
The more I cook with my crock pot, the more averse I am to cooking on the stovetop. I especially hate anything that will create the mess of splattering grease, like browning ground beef.
There's an easier way. You can brown it in your crock pot. And then if you really want to be organized and prepared for quick and easy dinners, you can portion it out and freeze it so it's ready to go when you need it.
Having cooked ground beef (or turkey) ready and waiting to be added to any recipe can be a real time saver. (And we all know how critical having food ready and waiting for quick and easy meals is to avoiding the perils of fast food and takeout. I'm convinced it's one of the cornerstones of lasting weight loss success.)

Jillie doesn't season the meat as she is browning it. I would. I'd add salt and pepper and maybe a little garlic powder. Adding flavor but keeping the seasonings neutral enough to work with most any recipe. And she rinses it after cooking to cool it quickly and get rid of excess fat.

Martha, I enjoy reading your blog, but am a bit of a grammar and usage curmudgeon. In your comments on today's blog, the word "adverse" was used, when the word that was appropriate is "averse," which means "to be against." "Adverse" means "bad," or "undesirable," such as adverse side effects of taking a drug.
