I came across an interesting article today on the power of basic yoga in preventing falls in women over 65 years old.
“Results from a study conducted by The Temple University Gait Study Center found that at the end of the nine-week Iyengar basic yoga program, participants had a faster stride, an increased flexibility in the lower extremities, an improved single-leg stance and increased confidence in walking and balance.”
Participants also reported the following benefits after just nine weeks of basic yoga:
- Feeling more centered
- Confidence to walk further for longer periods of time
- Relief from back and knee pain
- Better outlook on their day-to-day lives
- Improvement in quality of life
Reading these reports makes my heart sing! I've discovered the healing benefits of basic yoga in my life and love when others experience them too.
If women over age 65 can realize significant improvement in their physical and mental health after nine weeks of basic yoga, think about what it could do for you!
Many people have misconceptions about yoga that prevent them from experiencing its benefits --they think they have to be young, healthy, athletic and flexible. So, they continue to suffer needlessly with aches, pains, diminishing strength, flexibility, and power, when the ability to feel better is within reach.
Basic yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, health, or current fitness level. As this study proves, you're never too old to begin experiencing the benefits of basic yoga. To read the complete article.
