After I had 4 kids in 5 years, I found myself 5’5″ and 180 lbs. I didn’t like how fat I felt, but I never really thought I could take on losing so much weight with a newborn baby.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or “A-Ha Moment” That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
My husband was having a lot of joint pain and inflammation, so we decided to go on the GAPS diet, which was derived from the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) created by Dr. Sidney Valentine Haas to naturally treat chronic inflammatory conditions in the digestive tract as a result of a damaged gut lining. The GAPS Diet focuses on removing foods that are difficult to digest and damaging to gut flora and replacing them with nutrient-dense foods to give the intestinal lining a chance to heal and seal. I secretly hoped it would help me lose weight too!
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
For about 6 months, we followed the GAPS diet perfectly and felt wonderful. Throughout that time, I lost 30 lbs and felt great.
Before GAPS, I ate a lot of sugar and we ate four huge blocks of cheese a month. Now, we focus on real, whole foods and lots of veggies!
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
I didn’t exercise before GAPS and I still don’t, but every few days I will run about a half mile. Otherwise, I call chasing after my kids and chopping veggies my “exercise”.
