Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
I had been heavy almost all of my life. I was chubby as a kid, “thick” as a teen, overweight in my 20s, and obese in my 30s and entering my 40s. Now, at 43, I’m finally getting fit! I started my weight loss journey in July 2014, and I’ve since lost 102 pounds naturally.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or “A-Ha Moment” That Caused You To Really Commit Yourself To Succeeding?
After a bad break up, I found myself asking my own self, “How can I love myself the way I want to be loved?” That began a journey towards making healthy choices (mentally, spiritually, and physically) throughout each day that I deemed as acts of love towards myself. Those choices included eating whole foods and also exercising.
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Beginning Your Journey? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
Before I mostly ate processed foods and junk foods. Now, I eat primarily along the Paleo way.
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before You Started And Now?
Before I did not exercise at all. There may have been times where I would go on a walk, but that was quite rare indeed. Now, I train 5 days a week.
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
The biggest change is that I am so much stronger physically, mentally, and spiritually!
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I’ve lost 102 pounds. It took 2 years.
Advice and/or Words of Wisdom to Others Who Are Struggling?
Don’t wait until you get to your goal to celebrate. Set weekly goals and celebrate each week along the way. Those goals should be non-scale victories, like drinking a gallon of water at least 3 days a week or doing 5 full body push-ups or meal prepping your breakfasts and lunches. And more than anything else, be patient, gracious, and compassionate with yourself during this process. You’ll need to be your own best friend. So, talk to yourself and about yourself with the same tenderness and mercy that you’d have for the ones most dear to you.
