Because I believe slow cooking is key to getting and staying slim today I'm giving away a Hamilton Beach Set & Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker!
Before beginning my Weight Watchers friendly crock pot cooking challenge back in October 2013, I'd never really thought much about the link between losing weight and slow cooking. But the truth is, if you are trying to lose weight, your slow cooker can be your best friend.
For most of us, dinner is the meal that often derails our best intentions when it comes to weight loss.
After a long day of work, you arrive home tired and hungry. And the last thing you want to do is think about cooking dinner.
So you end up grabbing the quickest thing you can get your hands on. And it’s rarely, if ever, light and healthy!
But, with a crock pot instead of worrying all day about what to make for dinner, you know a healthy and delicious meal will be ready and waiting when you get home.
Or you can use your slow cooker on the weekends to make light and healthy meals to warm up during the week. The slow cooker/crockpot makes it easy to cook healthy, affordable meals without having to spend hours in the kitchen.
Have you heard the saying, "20 minutes in the kitchen can save you 3 hours on the treadmill (affiliate link)"?
Well, it's true!
Why The Slow Cooker/CrockPot is an Essential Kitchen Tool for Weight Loss...
1. Makes meal planning easier. Many Weight Watchers crock pot recipes are complete one pot meals.
2. Requires planning which is critical to weight loss success. If we want to eat right and lose weight we need a plan. If we leave it to chance we’ll end up opting for high calorie convenience foods: take out, the drive-thru, fast food, the vending machine, etc.
3. Lends itself to big batch cooking and leftovers. Which can be re-purposed or portioned out for future meals.
4. Saves time in the kitchen. You can put your ingredients in the crock pot in the morning or afternoon and dinner will be ready when you want it. I love the convenience of investing a little time and then moving forward with my day, while dinner cooks, practically unattended. No pots boiling over, burned skillets and last minute rushing around to get dinner figured out.
5. Provides variety. You can make a lot more than pot roast, soup and chili in your slow cooker, as I’ve learned during the last six months. Appetizers, beverages, breakfasts, main dishes, side dishes and desserts are all possible with a slow cooker.
6. Makes cooking possible even for those with little kitchen know-how. Slow cooking is practical, realistic and very forgiving, perfect for novice cooks. Recipes tend to be straightforward with minimal ingredients and very few steps. Meals made in the slow cooker may not be the prettiest ever. But, they can be some of the tastiest.
7. Naturally Low Fat. Because crock pot cooking is a moist form of cooking it requires less fat, so you’ll save calories and points.
8. Perfect all year round. While most of us think of the slow cooker during the fall and winter, it’s the perfect summer kitchen device. I’ve received lots of comments from folks in hot climates who depend on their slow cooker all summer to avoid heating up the kitchen.

Notes from The SweetHome review site on the Hamilton Beach Set & Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker: "It’s not fancy, but the intuitive interface, locking lid, and modest price have made it the best deal for your money three years running—and it’s the only slow cooker with a heat probe to monitor the doneness of roasts and other meats."
It also was featured in this Slow Cooker Savvy Class I took recently.

I love cooking chicken in my crockpot. I cube it or shred it and put it in the freezer to use in my healthy salads and soups. I have been a crockpot user for all 35 yrs of my marriage. It just lets you cook delicious healthy meals that are ready when you are.

My slow cooker not only helps me to plan out my meals, it makes it easier to use fresher, low calorie ingredients. Most importantly for weight loss/control, my meals are ready when I get home so that we can eat before 7 p.m. No more late meals!

I think owning a slow cooker would help me tremendously. I don't have a problem staying on point at breakfast and lunch, which I pack ahead of time, but getting home to cook when I am really hungry gives me the opportunity to pick as I cook/prepare my dinner. I think if I have dinner ready when I get home so I can eat right away, I could stay on point at dinner too. Preparing dinner while hungry is definitely my downfall.

I love that I can prep the night before and it cooks all day. I end up being able to freeze leftovers and eat much more healthy becayod how easy it is.

Slow cooking is fabulous... we always have leftovers, which makes meal planning less of a chore. We can choose to freeze for later or have for next day lunch/dinner!

A slow cooker helps me eat better, because rather than buying take-out or fast food, I plan out a healthy and satisfying meal ahead of time. It is easy and fun so I don't become frustrated or overwhelmed.

My slow cooker is quite old and definitely well used. It is my go to many times for my weight loss journey. Planning is what it is all about. I find when I plan a slow cooked meal, I stay on my weight watchers program. I truly enjoy every recipe that I have tried from your recipes. My husband, although not needing any weight loss, loves everything I have tried using the crock pot.

I love using a slow cooker. It is the perfect tool for planning healthy meals throughout the week. Love coming home after work to a ready-to-eat meal.
Pam Pittman
I LOVE slow cooker meals because I can put it together in the morning while I am fixing breakfast and I AM DONE. I can continue with my daily plans and not have to stop to prepare my meal. I use the meals for mid day (because I don't want to eat late) and we can use the leftovers to snack on later if we are hungry. Otherwise I find myself tempted to get take out or fast food.

I love that you have given me encouragement to stay at lifetime thru all of the recipes that you send weekly and that I can find a recipe when I need one from your site. I would luke to be in tge give away.

A friend and I have been WW buddies for years. On Friday nights when her girls were little we had Burger King Whopper night. Now her girls are moms. But the two of us still have Friday night dinner together, but now it is a slow cooked treat, usually from your cookbooks

I have cooked with a slow cooker for years. I attended your class tonight and was encouraged to use it with my Weight Watcher program. I got some great ideas and was glad to find your sight with recipes I can make for me and my husband. My slow cooker is pretty old and I liked how you showed many different models. Thanks for doing the class for us.

It would be a joy to win this. Many yrs. ago I used a very small one, but with health issues & being older, it would be wonderful to have something larger so that I can prepare a bigger meal & freeze some, to make it so easier on me. Thanks for giving away such a wonderful gift.

I use my slow cooker for meals during the week and especially on Sunday. I always plan my supper first thing in the morning so I know how many points I have for the rest of the day and the slow cooker gives me time to do the things during the day that I want to do or need to do and not have to worry about what to make for dinner. On Sundays making dinner in the crock pot gives me more time to spend with my family knowing that dinner is cooking.

I love to use my crock pot. It helps me prep low-fat low-calorie meals for my family and for me that helps aids me in my weight loss. One of my favorites is shredded chicken with garlic onions chicken broth and season salt. I shred it and can use that for anything from stews and soups to salads. it also helps me with busy days and busy schedules between work and the kids schedules.

I just happened upon your website when searching for healthy slow cooker meals. I'm so glad I found you. After being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last year I've been more conscience of what I eat and how I prepare my meals. The information on your site has helped me tremendously. Thank you!
Sandra
