Here's a quick and easy fresh squeezed lemonade recipe for your files.
Fresh squeezed lemonade is so easy and refreshing, especially if you have a source for fresh lemons, the way I do living here in Phoenix!
I've got several great friends with lemon trees who are always willing to share their lemons with me in season.
Once you taste fresh squeezed lemonade you'll never want to settle for frozen concentrate or powders to make lemonade again.
You also have a lot more control when making fresh lemonade since you can adjust the amount of sugar up or down to create your own perfect sweet tart lemony balance of flavor.
If you live in Arizona, or anywhere you have lots of fresh lemons readily available right now, fresh squeezed lemonade is a great way to make use of them.
You could even squeeze batches of lemons and place one cup portions of fresh lemon juice in small plastic freezer bags to enjoy fresh lemonade all year long.
I've learned from reading recipe books and experimenting, that there are basically two different ways to make homemade lemonade - using either sugar or a simple syrup. Both are delicious. Here I share making fresh squeezed lemonade with sugar. Here's where you'll find the recipe for making it with simple syrup.
To get the maximum juice from your lemon, make sure they are room temperature and then roll them back and forth on the counter as you press down firmly with the palm of your hand. This will help the lemon release more of its juice.
Another trick is to place a cold lemon in the microwave (affiliate link) for a few seconds before juicing it.
Fresh Squeezed Lemonade Recipe
- 4 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup lemon juice (from about 4 lemons)
- Finely grated zest of one lemon, if desired
- Lemon slices, if desired for serving
- Fresh mint leaves, if desired for serving
In a large pitcher, stir together the water, sugar, and lemon juice until the sugar is completely dissolved. Stir in the lemon zest. Serve your fresh squeezed lemonade over ice and garnish with lemon slices and mint if desired.

Hi!
Love this recipe, was just wondering how long do you think it would keep for in bottles? I have 24 lemons that I need to use in next couple of days!!!

Hi Lizzie,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but I've been away in Europe. The lemonade should keep for a few days. What I like to do is freeze portions of fresh lemonade in ziplock freezer bags. You can also freeze the freshly squeezed lemon juice in 1 cup portions to have available whenever you want.
