Watermelon has long been a favorite at picnics, barbecues and family-gatherings - but it also makes a great smoothie!
By themselves they are quite watery, but when added with other favorite ingredients they can quickly become thick, smooth and creamy.
Nutritionally, watermelon is a great source of vitamins A, C and B6, as well as potassium. It also challenges tomatoes as a food with high-lycopene content. Here's an interesting article with scientific proof that eating watermelon does work for weight loss!
We love using watermelon as a base for smoothies, while mixing it with other favorite fruits and vegetables - so we gathered some of those recipes here to share with you.
But don't limit yourself to these watermelon smoothie recipes.

Watermelon Detox Smoothie from Young and Raw (4* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Did you know that watermelon has more lycopene (a powerful anti-oxidant) than tomatoes? And limes have more vitamin C than lemons? Be sure to try this watermelon detox smoothie to help you get hydrated and give yourself a little energy boost.
Raspberry Watermelon Smoothie from Healthy Smoothie HQ (4* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Nothing says summer more than watermelon and raspberries, so we think this may just be the ultimate summer smoothie. Loaded with watermelon and raspberries, strawberries and blueberries, it also includes some banana and coconut oil.
Robyn's Blueberry Watermelon Smoothie from Add a Pinch (2* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
To make this delicious smoothie a little creamier and give it a bit of a protein boost, you can add some Greek Yogurt before blending.
Watermelon Smoothie Cooler from Healthful Pursuit (4* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Leanne's Watermelon Cooler Smoothie recipe makes one very large portion (approx. 25 ounces). You can try giving it an extra power boost by adding any of the following before blending: flax seed, chia seed, hemp seed, or protein powder.
Green Watermelon Avocado Smoothie from Green Lite Bites (3* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
A really green smoothie, this recipe is one of my favorite ways to get more "greens" into my diet. We can only eat so much salad or vegetables and adding spinach to your smoothies packs a great nutritional boost.
Simple Watermelon Smoothie from Prevention (2* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Prevention's version of this smoothie makes 2 servings and uses fat-free milk, but we prefer it with either unsweetened almond or soy milk. This is another easy smoothie that tastes great with a little added protein powder, if you prefer.
Kathy's Watermelon Frosty from Lunchbox Bunch (4* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
This frosty requires you to chop and freeze your watermelon ahead-of-time, but it's oh-so-worth-it! In addition to the lemon juice, you can always add some lime juice while blending to change it up a bit.
Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie with Ginger from Bon Appètit (3* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Add a little zing to your strawberry watermelon smoothie by adding fresh ginger. Not only does it taste great, but ginger also helps with digestion and it helps to soothe and relax an aching belly.
Watermelon Slush from Eating Well (1* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
This frozen watermelon slush is like your very own homemade pre- or post-workout sports drink, thanks to the potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C.
Apple Watermelon Smoothie from Citron Limette (5* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
Marie adds an apple and some Greek Yogurt in this smoothie. It's sweetened with honey, but if the watermelon and banana are sweet enough, you can leave out the 1 tablespoon of honey and shave off 1 Points Plus (according to our calculation).
Watermelon Agua Fresca Smoothie from Oprah (3* Weight Watchers Points Plus)
This isn't an authentic agua fresca in the truest sense because the fruit in agua fresca is mashed with a fork (or hand-masher) before mixing with water. But we won't tell if you don't 😉
