Mustard Greens Juice
Mustard Greens Juice Recipe

(30 Days of Juicing Day #22 – Spunky & Soulful Mustard Greens Juice)

In my attempt to broaden my horizons and create more green juices from produce other than spinach and kale, I gave myself a huge challenge with this first one.

Mustard greens!

I am not sure that I’ve ever had mustard greens before, but if I have I’m sure they were cooked. I found one website that describes the taste of mustard greens as “spunky and soulful.”

That’s exactly how I’d describe this recipe for mustard greens juice – spunky and soulful with a peppery after-taste.

On a positive note, it’s really not terrible – I’ve added enough other ingredients to this juice to make it taste pretty darn good.

I searched high and low for a reputable mustard greens juice recipe, but came up empty-handed. All I could find were remarks saying you don’t want to drink it straight.

The Skinny on Spunky & Soulful Mustard Greens Juice

Following my trend of taste-testing while creating, I think this is a pretty good juice with a hint of pepper. I’m sure I’ll be making it again – but may change up the ingredients a little.

I started off with 2 large mustard green leafs, then added 2 stalks of celery, 2 cucumbers, 1 apple, 1 black plum, 1 lemon, 1/2 lime and some ginger.

According to my calculations, this mustard greens juice has about 80 calories and 2* Weight Watchers Points Plus.

Nutritional Estimates Per Serving (about 1-1/4 cups - will vary): 80 calories and 2* Weight Watchers Points Plus. (I only count the calories from the apple and plum to determine points. Well its 2018 and I was looking around for mustard greens recipe’s for juicing. I made my own based on what I also had on hand. Which was Mustard Greens, apples, and ginger. I threw all of this into the blender, not my juicer and I actually liked it.. I did have celery on hand but sometimes find it to be too strong. But thank you to all of you for the tips that you’ve posted.. I’m off to the market!

  2. It’s amazing how much difference a little lemon juice makes with mustard greens. I was about to have to throw out a batch of really expensive juice when I found that out and added lemon to it. I can’t even taste the hotness now.

  3. I juice by what greens I have at the moment and I had a big new bunch of Whole Foods mustard greens. I added the rest of the Kale and Chard, the zest and juice of a lemon (not the white part) some celery some ginger some turmeric and drank about 16 oz of this .

The ginger and turmeric made it even hotter. THIS IS HOT!!! NOT A PEPPERY TASTE—HOT.

I made it but I would use it more sparingly.

    1. Hi Harry, thanks for letting us know. I think there can be quite a bit of variation in the “hotness” of various greens depending on their age and the climate in which they grew.

  4. Oh dear god. I just drank straight up mustard greens. One sip and I feel like I drank wasabi and am going to die. I am not a wimp. This is a warning. No not do what I did. Ever.

  5. Hey Peter,

You are a spunky brave soul to try juice from mustard greens. While I’m adjusting to kale and spinach, not sure I’m ready for such a big leap yet. Will put it on my list of recipes to try when I’m no longer a green juice drinking sissy ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m a big believer in the power of healthy food – especially nourishing greens – to help minimize our sugar cravings.
