30 days of juicing Joe Cross Mean Green Juice
(30 Days of Juicing Day #1 – Joe Cross Mean Green Juice)

If it were not for Joe Cross and his movie, Fat Sick & Nearly Dead, there is a good chance I would not be undertaking this 30 Days of Juicing project. So, it seemed only fitting to kick things off with his Mean Green Juice.

Skinny on Joe Cross Mean Green Juice

Rod politely declined when I asked if he wanted a glass of green juice to start the day. So, I cut the original recipe in half which provided 1 large glass.  I also used less kale and am glad I did. It’s definitely an acquired taste. If you are new to juicing go easy on the kale!

Served over ice, this was not nearly as bad as it looked.  I’d call it light and refreshing. Joe Cross Mean Green Juice is one I could easily get used to beginning the day with. At least in hot weather.

But it didn’t leave me feeling completely satisfied so I made a cup of decaf and enjoyed it with a slice of whole grain toast liberally spread with peanut butter. Have I ever mentioned how much I love peanut butter?

According to my calculations this juice has about 58 calories and *2 Weight Watchers Points Plus. The apple made about 1/2 cup of apple juice, which is all I counted. I’m not really concerned about the negligible calories from juicing the green veggies.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

  • 1 apple
  • 1-3 leaves kale
  • 1/4 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Instructions

  • Wash all produce well. Peel the lemon, if desired. Juice all the ingredients and pour over ice.

Notes

**Nutritional Estimates Per Serving (entire recipe): 58 calories and 2 WW Points Plus
**I only counted calories in the 1/2 cup apple juice from the apple. As a WW member, I' not concerned about the negligible calories and associated Points Plus from the lemon, ginger, cucumber, celery and kale.

    1. No, Diane, we didn’t add protein powder to our juices though I do use protein powder often in smoothies.

  1. Do you have a 30-day menu plan with both the juicing and the WW meal of the day? Would be interested in seeing that.

    Thank you,
    J

    1. Hi Julie, What a great idea! But no, I don’t have a 30-day menu plan with both juicing and WW. I’ll put it on my list. Sorry i couldn’t be of more help.

  2. I have also been doing more smoothies lately and just finished the Dr. Oz 3 Day Detox (all smoothies). Now that I just incorporate them into my normal eating plan I am having a hard time determining WW points. For example, when I plugged the Dr Oz Breakfast smoothie into the recipe builder it said 8 points. I know WW does this with recipes but I am trying to determine how I want to handle it. The only items in my smoothie that had points were 1 tbsp flax seeds (1 pt), 1 tbsp almond butter (3 pts). It also had a banana, water, 1 cup raspberries, lemon juice and a 1/4 cup spinach.

    1. Hi Karen, I’m not familiar with the Dr. Oz 3 Day Detox. I’ll have to check it out! I know what you mean about counting points. I think you have to find what works best for you and supports your weight loss/maintenance goals. In the example you give, I’d count the flax seeds and almond butter and assign it 4 points. I’ve found that I can eat 2 to 3 servings of fruit a day and still maintain my weight without difficulty. Hope this helps.
