(30 Days of Juicing Day #18 – Beet Green Apple Juice)
I’m trying to be a little more adventurous with my juice recipes and just this morning I decided to add beets to my ever-growing list of juicing ingredients.
In all honesty though, I really don’t care for beets, so it’s a big step. Beets just always seem to taste like dirt to me.
I did a little research and learned that golden beets are believed to be somewhat milder than the more common red beets.
So, I picked up a couple of small, organic golden beets the last time I was at the market.’
Who knows, maybe I will develop a new taste for beets, the same way I have with green juices.
The Skinny on Beet Green Apple Juice
Since I was tasting this juice as I was doing the juicing (just as I usually do), I decided that the only way I would be able to comfortably drink it would be to make it tart and lemony.
So, I added a green apple and lemon. (Be sure to check out the video below that discusses the most common juicing mistakes. Elizabeth has some good ideas to help make some juices more palatable.)
Yes, I can still taste the beet, but it doesn’t bother me so much because of the extra tartness.
According to my calculations, this beet green apple juice has about 115 calories and 3* Weight Watchers Points Plus.

Beet Green Apple Juice {30 Days of Juicing}
Ingredients
- 1 organic golden beet, raw/uncooked
- 2 celery stalks
- 1 green apple
- 2 large kale leaves
- Handful spinach
- 1- inch piece ginger root
- 1 lemon
Instructions
- Wash all produce thoroughly and chop into pieces that will fit your juicer (affiliate link). You may peel the lemon first, or leave it unpeeled for juicing. (I've found that using unpeeled lemon adds some bitterness to the juice.) Juice all ingredients and serve over ice.

The Most Common Juicing Mistakes
As Elizabeth mentions in the video, some of the more common mistakes people make while juicing include:
- Make sure you’re already getting enough fiber in your diet
- Juicing too many fruits or root vegetables that are naturally high in sugar
- Try to juice 2 or 3 non-sugary vegetables for every piece of fruit, or root vegetable, in the juice
- Always include a lemon because it helps cut any bitterness and a great source of vitamin C
- Elizabeth’s favorite juice: 2 cucumbers, kale, 1/2 beet, 1/2 apple, small lemon

I just read somewhere that peeling your beets can help to make the
juice taste less earthy too.
Ok, thanks! I’ll definitely try peeling my beet before juicing next time. The taste wasn’t too bad though – the whole lemon and green apple really helped.
