It’s Girl Scout Cookie sales time again!
And this year is special – 2012 marks the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting.
Booth cookie sales are going on now in Arizona – from February 10 through March 11, 2012.

Balancing your desire to support the Girl Scouts and indulge in their delicious cookies with the desire to stay on track with your weight loss goals can be tricky. As a cookie loving Lifetime Weight Watchers Member, it’s something I’ve struggled with for years.
Most of the time, I prefer homemade sweet treats where I can control what’s in them.
But, there are exceptions to every rule and Girl Scout cookies are one of them. The good news is that the Girl Scout Cookie Drive is only for a few weeks every year, so it’s possible to indulge a little without getting too carried away 🙂

I learned while researching this post that the Girl Scout Cookie licensed bakers can offer up to eight varieties of Girl Scout Cookies each year, but only three types are mandatory: Thin Mints®, Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos® and Shortbread/Trefoils®.
The national Girl Scout organization reviews and approves all varieties proposed by the bakers. Any of the five optional cookies can be changed every year. Each bakery names its own cookies, so Girl Scout Cookies that are quite similar may have different names. So the particular variety of cookies available varies by council and location.
