I know, I know, the name Spicy Kale Juice doesn't sound all that appealing - but trust me when I tell you that it is really tasty. I think it's a great entry for Day #4 for our 30 Days of Juicing and Weight Watchers.
I came up with this creation after looking at this juice recipe for Spicy-Tart Kale Limeade.
Since I didn't want to have to make a special trip to the store for today's juicing recipe, I'd have to use what I already had in my refrigerator.
So, Peter's Spicy Kale Juice was born. I think an even more appropriate name might be Peter's Super Green Spicy Limeade. It has a nicer ring to it - don't you think?
The Skinny on Spicy Kale Juice
Just 4 simple ingredients are all you need: apple, kale, fresh ginger and lime.
This juice provides energy in the form of B-complex vitamins along with an abundance of iron and copper.
You'll also get some vitamin C and healthy antioxidants thanks to the fresh apple juice and lime juice. Lime juice also has some beneficial antibiotic properties.
Ginger provides the spice, but you'll also get potassium which is another essential mineral, a natural electrolyte and natural anti-inflammatory agent.
According to our calculations, each serving has about 58 calories and 2* Weight Watchers PP+. We only counted the fresh apple juice because the juice from the kale, lime and ginger provides negligible calories.
Spicy Kale Juice
Ingredients
- 2 apples
- 4 kale leaves
- 1 lime
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
Instructions
- Wash all produce well. Peel the lime if desired. Peel the ginger root. Juice all ingredients and serve over ice, if desired.

Hi I don't understand why you count points plus for your juice. I have been on Weight Watchers and juicing since June. The recipe above I would count as zero points plus since fruits and vegetables for the most part are zero points. I am juicing with the Nutribullet. Thanks

Hi Mary,
Thanks for your question. On the Weight Watchers Points Plus plan, as you know, fresh fruits and most vegetables have 0 points plus. The starchy vegetables such as corn, peas and potatoes have point plus values as do fruit and vegetable juices. If you look up “orange” in the WW Points Plus guide it has a value of “0.” If you look up “orange juice” one cup has a value of “3.” “Tomato or mixed vegetable juice” has a value of “1? per cup.
I’ve done some research and discovered that carrot juice and apple juice have about the same calories as orange juice so I’m assigning them a value of “3? per cup for the juices I’m making. The calories from most other vegetables (cucumbers, greens, celery, fennel, etc) are negligible so I’m assigning them a value of 0 to 1 per cup.
I think the Nutribullet is a blender, not a juicer so it's a little different in that you are getting the whole fruit/veg including the fiber. With the juicers we are using. All the fiber is eliminated.
The more you do WW, the more you will discover variability in the way people count/track. As my WW leaders used to say, you need to figure out what works for you and let your weight loss be your guide.
