If you cannot find it, you can try substituting an equal amount of agave nectar, pure maple syrup, honey or molasses. What is brown rice syrup? Brown rice syrup is a popular plant-based sweetener and alternative to refined sugar. It is made by steeping brown rice with natural enzymes, which break down the starches into sugars which are further reduced down into the lightly sweetened light brown syrup. Brown rice syrup has a smooth texture with a mild, buttery, almost honey-like flavor. Not a fan of pecans? Substitute and equal amount of your favorite chopped nuts—almonds, walnuts, cashews and macadamia nuts would all work well.Swap out your favorite dried fruit for the blueberries. I think dried cherries, cranberries, or chopped apricots would taste great.
