Tell Us A Little Bit About Your Weight Struggle
After gaining a huge amount of pregnancy weight that was never lost, I compounded it by gaining even more through emotional eating after the deaths of my parents.
To make matters worse, I gained even MORE weight when our family was attempting to make a huge life transition when we joined an ultra-conservative Mennonite group in Southeastern Pennsylvania, which meant making a major move from Indiana, and I coped (or attempted to) through more emotional eating.
What Was Your Wake-Up Call Or "A-Ha Moment" That Caused You To Sign Up With Weight Watchers?
My husband and I had taken our five children out for a special meal for the holidays, and I was unable to fit in the arm chairs at the table.
Being laughed at by the restaurant staff, and stared at and whispered about from other diners while I stood waiting for an 'armless' chair was SO humiliating!
I cried through most of the meal, so ashamed of the condition I was in, and in the shame I felt I had brought upon my husband and children that evening.
That was my breaking point!
I knew if I didn't change that I was simply burying myself with my own knife and fork… and would never live to watch our children grow up.
How Have Your Eating Habits Changed Since Weight Watchers? What Did You Eat Before And What Are You Eating Now?
Before, I ate mindlessly… and ate whatever and whenever I wanted, never giving careful consideration to whether or not I was truly hungry or just eating out of desire or emotions, etc.
After my journey began, I learned the importance of keeping a careful Food Journal. Keeping track of your food really helps you figure out what you're eating, WHY you're eating and how you can improve the next day.
Before my weight loss journey, I ate a lot of carby, sugary foods, comfort foods and and processed foods.
After my weight loss journey began, I learned the importance on focusing on food found in the outer perimeter of the grocery store.
I learned to go for veggies, fruit, lean meat, fat-free and light dairy, whole grains, etc. -- and to steer clear of processed foods.
You can build the healthiest most satisfying meals and snacks if you simply eliminate processed foods from your diet.
Before, I drank anything regardless of calories, etc. After, I learned the importance of drinking water and zero calorie fluids, and to drink like it's your job!
I always aimed for at least ½ my current weight in ounces each day.
Keeping properly hydrated is an amazing benefit for weight loss! Not only does it help with fighting hunger, it also helps flush toxins out, and keeps your skin and body looking and working at it's best!
What Is The Difference In Your Fitness Before Weight Watchers And Now?
At 410 pounds, my body hurt to move! As the weight came off, movement became a JOY again! For every 1 pound lost, my body was being relieved of 4 pounds of pressure off my weight bearing joints - so after losing 275 pounds, it was as if my body had 1,100 pounds lifted off it!!
I have never been a 'gym rat' and never had a gym membership, etc., but have found simply being more active in every day life works great for me! Climbing stairs, parking further away when I park, riding a bike, going for walks, etc. - they all add up!
What Has Been The Biggest Change/Payoff For You So Far?
Losing 275 pounds has completely changed my life in SO many ways!!
It isn't about the weight I lost but about the LIFE that I gained!! Before, I was simply watching life from the sidelines - now, I am LIVING life!!
How Much Weight Have You Lost? How Long Did It Take You To Lose It?
I lost 275 pounds, going from 410 pounds to 135 pounds.
I lost the first 100 pounds in the first 7 months and the following 175 pounds over the next 2(+) years.
Advice and/or Words of Wisdom to Others Who Are Struggling?
Losing weight IS hard! But being overweight is SO much harder!! You WILL be tempted to give up, but let me tell you this… It WILL be worth it!! If I can do this, YOU can too!!
