While shopping in Sprout’s Market here in Phoenix recently, I noticed something interesting in the frozen food section. Welch’s has come out with pre-packaged frozen smoothie kits!

I don’t think making smoothies is very difficult, just cut up your favorite fruits and put them in a blender, add some yogurt or milk and maybe some spices (or not) and blend away.

For me it’s actually kind of fun to experiment with different combinations and come up with my own smoothie concoctions.

So, I decided to pick up two of these smoothie kits since they were on sale, buy one get one free. So I got one mixed berry and one strawberry mango.

My Review of Welch’s Strawberry Mango Frozen Smoothie Kit

This seemed like a really good deal since they were on sale. The kit contained two frozen discs of low fat Greek yogurt along with some frozen diced mango and strawberry. And that’s it.

Following the directions on the package, you’re then supposed to add 1 cup of skim milk and 1/4 cup Welch’s 100% juice and blend. Well, for some reason I could find Welch’s 100% juice at Sprout’s, so I squeezed in a couple of fresh oranges instead. And since I really don’t drink cow’s milk anymore, I used 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk.

  • 1 package Welch's Frozen Smoothie Kit (Strawberry Mango)
  • 1 cup skim milk (I used unsweetened almond milk)
  • ⅛ cup grape juice (I used ½ cup fresh orange juice)
  1. Open pouch and unwrap yogurt.
  2. Add yogurt and all ingredients to blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Serve and enjoy.

Nutritional Estimates Per Serving (approx. 10 oz.): 123 calories, 2.3g fat, 21.2g carbs, 2.9g fiber, 5.2g protein and 3 Weight Watchers Points Plus.

Here is the breakdown of the estimated nutritionals for the smoothie I made (I didn’t exactly follow the instructions on the package). I substituted unsweetened Almond Milk for the skim milk and 1/2 cup fresh squeezed orange juice in place of the 1/8 cup grape juice.

I think this frozen smoothie kit is a pretty good option for making homemade smoothies when you are short on time, but it seemed a little pricey for what you get. This however was an excellent bargain for me since I got two smoothie packages for the price of one. But overall, I think I prefer to purchase all my ingredients separately – and I think it’s probably more cost-effective too.

Overall, the taste was good for this Welch’s Strawberry Mango Frozen Smoothie Kit and as with any smoothie, you can add your own special ingredients to suit your individual tastes.

    I added raw carrots and used coconut milk. I enjoyed it. I also buy mango, melon and other produce from sprouts in Las Vegas chop it up and freeze it. One thing I never did before on my own was add greek yogurt. I will for sure now. for 3 bucks it get a 7.5 out of 10. I would buy iy again if on sale.

      Thanks for your review Tom. Love the idea of chopping and freezing fruit and veggies ahead for smoothies. This is going on my to-do list as we move into the long smoothie making season here in Phoenix. I’m sure you can relate living in Las Vegas!
