"Distrust any enterprise that requires new clothes."
~Henry David Thoreau, Walden
Do we really wear only 20 percent of our clothes 80 percent of the time?
It seems hard to believe, but studies say it's true for most of us.
How many of your clothes have been languishing in your closet for years?
Do you have items with the tags still on them?
I am guilty on both counts.
Who hasn't made an impulsive clothing purchase they've later regretted?
In his book, It's All Too Much: An Easy Plan for Living a Richer Life with Less Stuff , Peter Walsh has a system to test the hypothesis.
Simply reverse all the clothes hangers in your closet so they face back to front.
As you wear items return them to the closet with hangers facing front to back.
You must actually wear the article of clothing to reverse the hanger -- trying something on and then taking if off doesn't count!
Wait six months and check the results.
I'm going give the experiment a try.
It just may be the reinforcement I need to give my closet the serious clearing it deserves.
